Tumors can occur in dogs just as they do in humans. Several herbs are available that can help to shrink tumors in canines. Choosing to treat a dog with herbs rather than traditional medication is a personal choice.
Types of Herbs
Cat's Claw contains anti-tumor properties, which can shrink canine tumors. Another herb, Maitake, promotes healthy cell growth. IP-6 and Inositol are also anti-cancer herbs.
Dosages
Herbs for people are dosed by average adult weight, which is 150 pounds. Divide the weight of the dog by 150; this gives you the percentage of the adult dose suitable for the dog. For example, a 30-pound dog divided by 150 equals 20 percent of the adult dose.
Essiac
One of the best tumor-shrinking and anti-cancer herbs available is Essiac, which actually contains four herbs--sheep sorrel, burdock root, slippery elm and turkey rhubarb. Together, these herb create a tumor-shrinking and anti-cancer synergy.
Essiac Dosages
Essiac is made into a tea and is purchased this way. Dogs up to 15 pounds are given 1/2 oz. per day, 15 to 40 pounds 1/2 oz. twice per day, 40 to 80 pounds 1 oz. twice per day and over 80 pounds 2 to 3 oz. two times a day.
Considerations
These herbs are safe to use daily and can also be used in combination with any medications a veterinarian may prescribe for your dog.
