Ideas For Garland Decorating

Floral garland can be created with flowers, needle and thread.

Garlands are a long wreath used to decorate homes and objects during the holidays or as an everyday decoration. You can create your own garland by braiding together various materials to match the theme of your decor. Alternatively, if you are working on a budget, revamp an old garland to create a new look.

Paint

Spray paint is a simple way to add a new look to old garland. Particularly during the holidays, metallic paint colors can add a festive touch to your garland. Lightly spray your garland in silver, gold or bronze from end to end. You may choose a paint stripe around the garland if you prefer a subtle look. To achieve a paint stripe, wind a strip of masking tape around the garland and fold it over each end. Next, spray the garland in your first color. Let the paint dry and you are ready to hang your garland.

Beads

Large ropes of decorative beads make a simple garland. Search local craft shops and thrift stores for strains of unique decorative beads. Purchase a roll of clear twine and string your beads on six strands before braiding them together into various patterns. To achieve the best results, choose beads from a certain color scheme or finish. For example, pair iridescent beads together or wooden beads in the same garland to give it a cohesive look.

Fresh Flowers

Garland can be used to create a beautiful centerpiece using fresh flowers. You can start with existing garland or create your own garland. Choose a full-bodied flower, such as a spider mum or daisy, as your main flower. On existing garland, stick the stem of the flower into the garland or attach it to the garland with a small, floral pin. To create your own garland, cut off the flower stem and measure a double length of thread the size of the garland plus 10 inches for knotting. Thread your needle. Insert the needle through the flower from the head to the stem. Continue until you have filled 3 feet of thread with flowers. Create multiple threads of flowers and braid them together.
