Install Wood Valence Kitchen Cabinets

Valances add visual interest.

Installing a valance between your cabinets will increase the decor of your kitchen. A wood valance usually is installed over a window and between two cabinets. And there are different styles of valances to choose from. Installing a wood valance may seem intimidating, but by following these steps, the project will go smoothly.

Instructions

1. Determine the size of the valance by measuring between the two cabinets where the wood valance will be installed with a tape measure.

2. If the valance has an arch or design, measure from the center line and trim each side with a circulatory saw.

3. Drill 1/8 pilot holes through the cabinet sides where the valance will attach with a power drill.

4. Apply a thin layer of wood glue to the edge of the wood valance. Hold the wood valance in position. Insert a 1 1/2 grabber screw into the pilot hole and tighten the valance with a power drill. Repeat this step on the opposite side.

5. Allow the glue to dry. Fill in any gaps with putty, which can be purchased at any home improvement store.
