Furnace hums, will not turn on. Motor will not spin the blower, but motor hums, tries to turn it, it starts to move a bit and then stops. Motor getting hot. I can turn blower by hand, there is some resistance.

If I am right and the motor/blower needs to be replaced, where can I order parts from?
The only thing that didn't seem to dissassemble simply is that afer removing all the nuts around the perimeter of the black blower housing (for lack of knowing the correct terminolgy), the blower housing didn't separate from the vertical duct, it must bolt on somehow.

Hello lmh1. Welcome to my Gas Appliances topic.
Quickest and best solution I can offer you is to remove the entire blower cage assembly and take it to any local electric motor repair shop. The shops will be listed in your local phone directory.
Electric motor repair shops can test the motor for internal failures. Electric motors can be repaired. However, often times it is less expensive to simply replace the motor then repair it.
The shops will remove the motor and install the replacement for an additional fee. Well worth the costs and time savings for you. When allowing the shop to replace the motor, you already saved the home service call fee of a heating service tech and their marked up price.
Another possibility may be the end bearings of the motor. Some motors have oil caps. Under the cap is the place to add a few drops of light weight sewing machinery oil or any other type of light weight oil.
The blower cage also has oiling caps. Lift the end cap up and add a few drops into each end. Hand rotate the entire cage blower to spread the oil around.
Oil type or brand, etc is not as important as the oil is. Any oil will due fine. Just oil the end bearings if there are oiling holes or caps.
Be sure the electrical power to the appliance is turned off, the thermostat is turned down and the gas control valve is in the off postion before attempting any repairs.
Retail parts dealers can also help determine what the possible problem may be. Bring the make, model and serial numbers. Dealers are an excellent source for original replacement parts. Dealers are listed in the phone book under heating appliances.

I pulled the motor/cage assembly, and found the oil ports. Then I spent a good 30-40 minutes spinning it by hand. At first, it was still bound, but after 30-40 mins, it bega to spin freely. Now I have heat again. Thanks for your help!
