Clean Mold From A Baseball Mitt

Mold often grows on baseball gloves.

Mold often forms on baseball gloves when they sit around for a long period of time in damp conditions. The visible black or white growth that results from the presence of mold on your glove is known as mildew. In order to remove the mildew from your baseball mitt, you need to invasively clean the glove. Once the mildew is removed from your glove, regular cleanings can prevent mildew from reforming on your glove.

Instructions

1. Remove any mildew that you can by hand or with a brush.

2. Mix 1 cup of rubbing alcohol with 1 cup of water. Dip a rag in this mixture.

3. Wipe the mildew away with the glove using the damp rag. If deep-set mold remains on the glove, use a mixture of water and a mild soap to remove it. Do not use detergent or dish-washing soap.

4. Let the glove dry. Reexamine the glove and make sure the mildew is gone. If not, repeat the process.

5. Apply leather conditioner to the glove. Make sure no new mold forms as the conditioner dries. Once the conditioner is dry, it will help keep mold from growing back.

Tips Warnings

If your glove is extremely moldy, you may want to remove the laces before cleaning.
