Adjust Scald Guards On Garden Tubs

Delta Scald Guard faucets help prevent serious burns from hot water.

Scald Guard is a feature on Delta faucets that limits the maximum water temperature to help prevent scalding. In the event of a loss of cold water pressure, or if the water heater is set too high, the Scald Guard valve automatically reduces the flow of hot water. The valve can be adjusted to provide hotter or colder water if you're not happy with the factory settings.

Instructions

1. Place a towel over the tub drain to keep parts from falling into it.

2. Loosen the handle-cover retaining screw with an Allen wrench. Pull the handle cover off the stem.

3. Pry the plastic cover off the rotational limit wheel.

4. Turn the rotational limit wheel one click clockwise to reduce the maximum water temperature by approximately 2 degrees Fahrenheit.

5. Turn it one click counterclockwise to increase the maximum water temperature by approximately 2 degrees Fahrenheit.

6. Place the plastic cover over the wheel. Place the handle cover on the stem, insert the retaining screw and securely tighten it.

Tips Warnings

Adjusting the rotational wheel does not increase the maximum water temperature above the temperature set on the water heater.

Scalding water can cause third-degree burns in a matter of seconds. Exercise extreme caution when changing the factory settings on the Scald Guard valve.
