Cut Tulle Into Ribbons

Create ribbon from tulle using rotary cutting tools.

Tulle is a very fine mesh fabric that is sold in widths from 6-inches to 45 inches. It is sold in various colors and is used to make numerous items, including ribbon. Making ribbon from tulle is achieved by cutting the tulle into strips of the desired width. Rotary cutting tools are the best tools to use to create smooth, even-width strips. The most economical way to make tulle ribbon is to purchase a spool of Tulle that is six inches wide.

Instructions

1. Measure and cut a 12-foot long piece of 6-inch wide tulle.

2. Fold the tulle in half matching the 6-inch edges. Repeat the process until the tulle is 2-feet long making sure all edges match.

3. Place the folded tulle on a rotary cutting mat. Position the rotary cutting ruler along the long edge of the tulle. Place it at the desired ribbon width. For example, if a 1-inch ribbon is desired, position the rotary cutting ruler so the long edge of the tulle is just under the ruler at the 1-inch mark.

4. Position the rotary cutter along the edge of the rotary cutting ruler, holding the ruler steady. Push the rotary cutter along the edge of the ruler. Remove the ruler and remove the cut strip. Repeat the process to create the desired number of ribbon strips.
