Replacing A Kitchen Sink Sprayer

Kitchen faucet sprayers offer a simple way to clean dishes, wash the sink or fill pots and pans with water. After continued use, the sprayer may begin to wear out and get stuck or discontinue working. If this happens, you may need to replace the sprayer. All you need to do is match up your old sprayer with a new one at the hardware store. The kits include a coupling used to secure the hose to the current faucet, a sprayer head and hose. It will take a few tools to remove the old sprayer and install the new one.

Instructions

1. Turn off the water supply using the shutoff valves located under the sink. If your sink does not have a valve, then shut off the water to the main water supply. The water valves are typically located in the basement near the water heater. Lift up the handle on the kitchen faucet to drain water still in the line.

2. Remove the nut that attaches the sprayer hose to the faucet under the sink with a pair of pliers or a wrench. Place a bucket beneath the hose in case there is water still in the line.

3. Loosen the mounting nut beneath the sprayer nozzle with a wrench. Remove the sprayer head and hose by pulling it up through the opening in the sink.

4. Push the new hose down through the sprayer mounting hole in the sink. Climb underneath the sink and pull the new hose down until the sprayer head rests on the mounting opening. Connect the end of the hose to the shank tee underneath the sink and tighten the nut with a wrench.

5. Flip the water valve to the ON position and test the new sprayer for leaks. If there are leaks, then re-tighten the connections lever with a wrench or pliers.

Tips Warnings

Be sure that your new sprayer is compatible with your sink if you are unable to match the old one to another.
