Swimming Party Invitation Ideas

Get your guests ready to hit the water with creative invitations.

Swimming parties provide the opportunity for some wet and wild fun. These parties, popular with adults and children alike, are the perfect antidote to summer's heat. As you plan your next water-logged event, craft invitations that directly relate to your swimming party theme: Guests will know immediately what type of party they have been invited to and will eagerly anticipate the prospect of diving into the crisp, cool water at your event.

Bottom-of-Pool Invitations

Get your guests into the mood to dive into the crisp, cool water by creating bottom-of-the-pool invites. To create these simple yet impressive invitations, you'll need white or cream cardstock and sheets of semi-translucent blue paper or plastic. Cut your cardstock into rectangles. Type up your party information and print it in the center of each sheet of cardstock. The blue material gets cut into rectangles 1 inch smaller on all sides than your cardstock sheets. Center your blue material on your cardstock sheet so that it resembles a pool of water in the center of a concrete surround. Staple your blue material in place at the top so guests can lift up the material and clearly read the invitation details. Upon receiving the invitation, guests will be able to just make out your invite through the blue material, as if it is written in the watery depths of a pool.

Bikini Invites

Create teeny-weeny bikini invites for your swimming event. To craft these invitations, draw outlines of bikini tops and bottoms on card stock and cut them out. Using a small hole punch, create holes on the side of the bikini top and bikini bottom, as well as one hole in the center of the bikini top. Using yarn in a corresponding color, attach the bikini top to the bottom by placing a length of yarn on each side of the bathing suit. A loop of yarn attached to the bikini top's center makes it handy for hanging. On the bikini top, write Swimming Party in bold print. Write the details of your invitation on the bottom. Instead of mailing, hang your invitations from your guests' front-door knobs using the loop you created at the top of the invite.

Water-Wing Invites

Create an invitation that your guests will remember using children's inflatable water wings. Instead of going with the standard paper invitations, venture from the norm by purchasing packages of water wings. Inflate each wing, then write the invitation details on the exterior in black permanent marker. Hand-deliver each invitation, or mail them to guests in small boxes. Because these clever invitations are so light, you will not have to invest much in postage. Not only will your invitations likely induce a chuckle, they will also excite guests into eagerly awaiting your party.
