Keep Your Salvage Yard Safe From Thieves

Often a simple sign is enough to deter potential thieves.

There are many ways to protect your salvage yard from thieves, from simple motion-activated lighting to advanced integrated security systems. You must determine what the thieves would be after and where it is located when deciding on what type of security to use. If you have valuable equipment on the property, thieves may be willing to take a bigger risk to get at it, and you should adjust your security accordingly.

Instructions

1. Install floodlights with motion sensors. Often a thief will be startled by a bright light suddenly coming on and quickly leave. You should place the lights in locations that will allow the motion sensors to cover most of the perimeter.

2. Get a dog. While there are dogs available that are specifically trained for security, the mere presence of a dog can be enough to deter a thief.

3. Hire a security guard. Having a person to walk around makes it more difficult for a thief to get in and out undetected. Many times, a thief will bypass anything that is guarded in search of an easier target.

4. Consult with a reputable security company. Companies that specialize in security can tailor a security system that is the most effective for your salvage yard. The security specialists will address any problems in your current security, and suggest several things to enhance it.
