Buderus heating system

Buderus heating system

I have a Buderus oil fired boiler with a Buderus ST150 indirect fired hot water tank. I performed maintenance on both with good results. The anode rod in the tank has threaded rod approximatley 1/2 which goes through the access lid. Attached to the threaded rod is a grounding wire. Direct replacement rods from Buderus are 10 times the price i can get from a local heating parts store. The only issue is all other rods are 3/4 with the threaded facing down towards the rod itself. My plan was to weld a section of 1/2 threaded rod to the 3/4 fitting and attach it the same way as the original rod. If anyone knows if this will work or has a better solution let me know. Any info will be appreciated.
