Open A Wine Bottle With A Corkscrew

Using a corkscrew to open a wine bottle is a simple skill.

Knowing properly open a bottle of wine with a corkscrew is a valuable skill. Properly opening the bottle ensures that the cork will remain in one piece. A corkscrew can be a dangerous tool when used incorrectly, but it's simple to learn the correct way to use this tool when opening a bottle of wine.

Instructions

1. Place the bottle of wine on a stable surface and flip open the blade on the corkscrew. Line up the blade just underneath the second ridge on the bottle's neck and press down until the foil is punctured. Run the blade around the ridge and peel the circle of foil off the top of the bottle.

2. Close the blade and open up the corkscrew. Get a firm grip on the neck of the bottle and insert the corkscrew into the center of the cork. It's important that the corkscrew enters the cork straight so that the cork isn't broken. Turn slightly until the corkscrew is firmly seated in the cork.

3. Grip the neck of the bottle firmly and twist the corkscrew until it's almost completely buried in the cork. Flip down the metal lever so that its lip rests on the top of the bottle's opening. Use your thumb to steady the lever and pull up on the cork with the opposite arm of the corkscrew, using the metal lever for leverage, until it is almost dislodged from the bottle.

4. Grip the cork tightly with your hand and twist it back and forth until it is released from the bottle. Unscrew the cork from the corkscrew.
