Care For A Pizza Stone

Pizza stones are a great home tool to make crispy and authentic breads and pizzas. With a few basic tips to follow, you can expect your pizza stone to last years.

Instructions

1. Place your stone in a cold oven before using and turn the oven on with the stone inside. Exposing a cold stone to a hot oven could cause your pizza stone to crack, rendering it unusable.

2. Stretch pizza dough over a layer of cornmeal, which will help prevent pizza from sticking to your pizza stone for a messy cleanup. Slide pizza onto hot stone with a pizza paddle and bake as directed.

3. Remove pizza and stone from oven. Do not attempt to care for the pizza stone until it has cooled down naturally. If you try to clean it while it's hot, you could crack the stone.

4. Wash your cool pizza stone in warm water. Do not use any soaps or detergents on your pizza stone because they will sink into the stone material and contaminate future pizzas.

5. Take care when moving a heavy pizza stone. Store somewhere where it won't break or get knocked over, such as in the oven itself.
