Cook With Plum Sauce

Plum sauce is a versatile condiment that is often utilized in Asian cuisine. It is generally made with plums, vinegar, ginger, chili and sugar, and it offers a sweet-sour flavor profile. Some plum sauce recipes call for additional ingredients, such as garlic, honey, soy sauce and cloves. The sauce is typically available in the Asian section of a grocery store and can be used as both an accompaniment to, and a component of, many meat dishes. It also pairs well with vegetarian entrees.

Instructions

Plum sauce uses

1. Plum sauce is often used alongside Asian favorites such as spring rolls, prawns, rangoons, samosas and tempura. The condiment offers an easy way to add a kick to chicken nuggets, chicken wings, shrimp or other meaty appetizers that you may be preparing at home. Simply place the sauce (preferably at room temperature) in a bowl for easy dipping access. If you are cooking for a vegetarian crowd, plum sauce works well with vegetable spring rolls, noodle dishes and fruit skewers as well.

2. Plum sauce can also be used as an integral part of a stir-fry or noodle dish. It can be added to chicken, pork, beef, vegetable or other entrees that you are preparing in a wok or skillet. Simply add it towards the end of the cooking process for extra flavor.

3. Many people enjoy plum sauce alongside roasted meats such as duck, but it also works well with spare ribs, lamb, fish, even ham. It can be easily applied atop a piece of fish, chicken or other meat for oven cooking. Or simply dress the meat with sauce when it is served.
