How Do You Fry A Wonton

Be creative! Fill wontons with just about anything before frying.

Fried wontons provide an Asian-inspired appetizer or side dish. You can fill the thin wrappers with anything you desire, including pork or meat fillings, cheeses or vegetables. Wonton wrappers are available at most well-stocked grocery stores. They come in small squares of raw dough, ready for filling with your preferred ingredients. Frying makes the wrapper crisp and also ensures the filling is heated throughout. Serve the wontons warm for the best texture and flavor.

Instructions

1. Place 1 teaspoon of your preferred filling in the center of the wonton wrapper. Moisten the edges of the wrapper with water and fold it in half diagonally. Press the edges to seal, forming a triangle.

2. Wet the two corners on the long ends of the wonton. Pull them toward each other and pinch them together, giving the wonton a circular appearance.

3. Add oil to your wok until it is about 3 inches high. Use a cooking oil that tolerates high heat without burning, such as peanut or canola oil.

4. Heat the oil until it reaches 360 degrees Fahrenheit or begins to bubble. A deep fry thermometer gives an accurate temperature gauge if you have one available.

5. Slide the wontons into the hot cooking oil two or three at a time. Fry them on each side for two to three minutes, or until they turn a deep golden brown.

6. Lift the wontons from the oil with a slotted spoon. Drain them on a layer of four paper towels for two minutes before serving.
