Make Apple Scallop In Three Easy Steps

A variety of apples can be used for a scallop.

An apple scallop is easy to make and when served as a side dish or dessert adds a fruit to balance a meal. As a child my job was to peel and slice the apples as my grandmother combined the ingredients that would be mixed into the fruit. When I use her recipe today, the aroma of the apple scallop as it bakes in the oven brings back happy memories of the two of us standing side-by-side as she taught me to use her treasured recipe.

Instructions

Preparing the apples

1. Cut the apples into thin slices.

Peel and slice four medium-sized apples and put them in a baking dish or casserole. Add 2 tablespoons of water and then sprinkle with 2 tablespoons of white sugar. Mix well.

2. The aroma of apples baking can make your mouth water.

Mix 4 tablespoons of flour, 1/2 of cup of packed brown sugar, 1 teaspoon of cinnamon and a dash of salt in a mixing bowl. Add 1 tablespoon of butter or oleo and mix with a fork until crumbly. Spread crumbly mixture on top of sliced apples in casserole.

3. Place the casserole in the middle rack of the oven and bake at 350 degrees for about 30 minutes or until lightly browned and apples are tender. Do not overcook the apples. Bake until done but still firm when tested with a fork.
