Congealed Jello Salad







Congealed JELL-O salad makes a great addition to any meal.


Congealed JELL-O offers a wonderful combination of cheese and sweet gelatin. This versatile dessert makes for beautiful presentations at any meal or festive gathering. It can also be geared for any holiday. Try using different flavors of JELL-O, such red or blue for winter holidays, orange for Halloween, green for St. Patrick's Day and yellow for Easter. Canned fresh fruits offer another source of variety as well. The cheese adds a creaminess with a slight bite.


Instructions


1. Mix the package of JELL-O into a bowl with the cream cheese or cottage cheese. Choosing between the cream cheese and cottage cheese is simply a matter of taste. Both work the same way. Dissolve this mixture in the hot water.


2. Add the can of fruit to the gelatin mixture. A few options for fruits are crushed pineapple, mandarin oranges, peaches, bananas and coconut. Drain liquid from fruit. Chop oranges or larger fruit into bite-sized pieces. Decide if you want to add pecans or walnuts and mix them in as well. .


3. Pour mixture into a 13-inch by 9-inch glass dish or gelatin mold. While still hot, add marshmallows to the top.


4. Set in the refrigerator and allow to congeal. Once set, remove from mold. Cut into slices or squares. This recipe serves about eight to 10 people.
