Use Caramels

Caramels

Caramel is created when sugar is heated slowly. It has a nice creamy texture and is naturally sweet. Caramel is used in many types of desserts to give them more flavor. It can be drizzled over ice cream or mixed in with some pudding. Caramel is sold in a jar as a liquid, and in a square as a solid piece of candy. Each square is individually wrapped and together they are called caramels. These caramels can be used to make many things. One way to use caramels is to make some candy apples.

Instructions

1. Begin by washing your apples and drying them off with a paper towel. You want the skin to be nice and smooth (and clean of course).

2. Insert a skewer into each of the apples near the stem. You can remove the stem if it is in the way. If the skewer is too long, break it in half.

3. Unwrap the caramels and place them in a microwaveable bowl. Microwave the caramels for 1 minute at a time. Take the bowl out and stir the caramels. Continue doing this until there are no chunks of caramel left and the caramel is a smooth liquid.

4. Put the crushed nuts and in a large bowl and put that bowl next to the bowl of melted caramel.

5. Dip your apple in the caramel first. Twirl it around so that the caramel gets all over it. Then dunk it in the chopped nuts. Again, you will want to twirl it around to get nuts all over it.

6. Place the now candied apple on a piece of wax paper. When you have finished all of your apples, place them in the refrigerator until the caramel hardens again.
