Boil Virginia Peanuts

Only use raw peanuts in the shell.

Instead of roasting raw Virginia peanuts, boil them. This snack takes next to no preparation, but it does take a long time to cook. Serve the boiled peanuts at parties, events or snacks. The only flavoring needed is salt. The natural taste of the peanut combines with the salt. Boiling only works with raw peanuts. Boiling roasted peanuts results in a salty, peanut butter taste. Boil the peanuts in the shells. Remove the shells immediately before eating. This holds in flavor.

Instructions

1. Use a large pot.

Fill a pot 3/4 full of water.

2. Regular table salt adds flavor.

Add 1 cup of salt. Place the pot on a stove burner and turn the burner on to medium heat.

3. Place a strainer in a sink and pour one pound of peanuts into it. Rinse the peanuts off with water. Pour the clean peanuts into the pot. Place the lid on the pot.

4. Boil the peanuts for four hours. The peanuts must always be submerged, so you may have to add more water as they boil. Check the peanuts every 30 to 40 minutes. Test if they are done in a couple of hours.

5. Remove peanuts from the heat. Store in the refrigerator.
