Make Caramel Corn

Caramel-coated popcorn is a classic, old-fashioned American treat. If there aren't any fairs coming through town any time soon, and you've let the giant metal popcorn tin go stale, you should try making your own. All it takes is a few simple kitchen ingredients.

Instructions

1. Preheat the oven to 300 degrees.

2. Use the air popper to make about 8 cups of popcorn. Weed out any husks and unpopped kernels. Do not add butter or salt.

3. Mix in about 1/2 cup of nuts with the popcorn. If you are not adding nuts, skip this step and move on to Step 4.

4. Put 1/3 cup butter, 1/2 cup brown sugar and 1/4 cup light corn syrup in a small saucepan. Add a small pinch of salt.

5. Heat the mixture on high. Be sure to keep stirring. Bring the mixture to a boil and allow it to boil for 2 minutes.

6. Pour the liquid mixture over the popcorn. Using a large wooden spoon, gently stir the popcorn until all of the pieces are coated.

7. Spread the popcorn onto a cookie sheet that has been coated with non-stick spray.

8. Bake the caramel corn for about 15 minutes, stirring occasionally to ensure that the pieces are baked evenly.

9. Remove the popcorn from the oven and give it a final stir. Enjoy! Any leftovers should be stored in an airtight container.
