Freeze Smoked Trout Spread

Smoked trout make flavorful appetizer spreads.

Smoked trout spread is a rich, creamy dish made with smoked fish fillets, cream cheese, chopped green onions or chives and seasonings such as salt, pepper and fresh basil to taste. The spread can also feature chopped tomatoes and is typically served on crackers, bagel chips or slices of cucumber. Smoked trout spread makes an elegant and hearty appetizer for any type of occasion, from wedding receptions to holiday parties. You can freeze leftover over trout spread for a few weeks, although its consistency will change slightly when thawed. Use full-fat cream cheese to ensure a smoother texture.

Instructions

1. Transfer the smoked trout spread to a small plastic freezer storage container. Leave a 1/2-inch space at the top to allow for expansion.

2. Press the container's air-tight lid securely into place to create a tight seal.

3. Spoon the dip into a plastic freezer bag featuring a secure zip-top seal as an alternative. Press any air out of the bag prior to sealing it closed.

4. Write the storage date on a piece of freezer tape and attach it to the container or bag as a reference.

5. Freeze the spread in a freezer set at 0 degrees for up to two weeks. Thaw the spread in the refrigerator.
