Bridal Bouquet Ideas With Hydrangeas

The bushiness of hydrangeas make bouquets appear fuller.

A bridal bouquet is the bride's signature piece that she holds as she walks down the aisle. This floral accessory can be made out of any type of flower including non-floral materials. However, some flowers are more popular choices for bouquets than others. Hydrangeas are bushy flowers that come in a variety of colors and, according to The Knot, are one of the top 10 most popular flowers to include in a bridal bouquet.

Solid Colors

Some brides want solid colored bouquets in white so that the bouquet does not distract from the wedding dress. If the bride has her mind set on a bouquet that is all one color, use white hydrangeas to create a full and frilly bouquet. The many petals on each hydrangea head can be assembled tightly together to make the bouquet look like it is knitted, and that the flowers are actually one large flower. If the bride wants to keep the bouquet colorful, but all one color, she can choose from the other hydrangea colors, such as pink and blue.

Multiple Colors

Various colors of hydrangeas can be mixed in a bouquet to create a rainbow of hues. The thing to keep in mind about hydrangeas is that each petal has different tones to it. For instance, a pink hydrangea could have a touch of green on the end of its petals, as opposed to being completely pink throughout the entire petal. As such, by color coordinating two or more colors of hydrangeas, the bridal bouquet can stand out and act as an accent piece.

Mixing Flowers

There are no wedding flower rules that state a bridal bouquet must consist of only one type of flower. Many flowers work well together and can be mixed up, such as hydrangeas with roses, peony, tulips and lilies. One idea for a bouquet is to select a color, such as white, and assemble a bouquet out of white hydrangeas, white roses and white tulips. Or, you can have a mostly white bouquet with accent colors, such as pink hydrangea with white roses. And don't be shy about adding other materials into the bouquet to complement the flowers, such as white ostrich feathers and cattail.

Size Options

Since hydrangeas are frilly flowers, you don't need a lot of them to make a bridal bouquet. In fact, one idea is to keep the bouquet sweet and simple by only holding three stems of hydrangea, tied together with lace or tulle fabric, or a ribbon. Brides that are having smaller, intimate weddings, or country weddings, may consider this option. For the bride that is having the large showy wedding, however, a bouquet of hydrangeas can be assembled to look massive and offer a contemporary aesthetic.
