Venison is high in protein and iron and low in fat.
Microwaving meat may be a time saver, but it can be tricky. Browning, a traditional helper in thoroughly cooking meat, doesn't typically occur in the microwave, so it is important to use other methods to make sure that your meat is done. The length of time your venison requires depends on its cut.
Venison Steaks
A venison steak needs 15 minutes for each 1/2 inch of thickness. You should microwave steaks on 70 percent power.
Cubed Venison
Cubed venison needs 5 minutes at 70 percent power for each 1/2 inch of thickness. You can microwave up to 2 pounds at once.
Ground Venison and Venison Sausage
Cook ground venison and venison sausage in a covered microwave-safe dish. Microwave your meat on 80 percent power for 8 to 10 minutes per pound.
Important Considerations
When preparing your venison in the microwave, use a food thermometer to make sure that the internal temperature is at least 160 degrees Fahrenheit. To make sure that the meat cooks evenly, arrange it in a uniform layer in the cooking dish. Also, adding liquid to the meat, like Worcestershire sauce, vinegar or water can improve the quality of the dish.
