Use A Twoprong Corkscrew

A two-prong corkscrew won't damage corks

A two-prong corkscrew is the best choice to open a bottle of wine when you don't want to damage the cork. This can be especially important when you try to open an old bottle with a brittle cork. It offers the best protection against getting bits of cork into the drink as well. Instead of having a worm, (the squiggly thick wire you screw into the cork), it has two prongs. They slide down around the sides of the cork to remove it. A two-prong corkscrew is fairly easy to use.

Instructions

1. Take the foil or the plastic off the top of the wine bottle. Use your fingers, or a serrated knife, if need be, to cut it and remove it.

2. Wet a paper towel with tap water; wring it out. Wipe off the top of the cork and the mouth of the wine bottle to remove any dirt and debris, according to Hanes Wine Review.

3. Push the longer prong down between the cork and the wine bottle. Work it down slowly, and don't push it all the way in.

4. Bend the handle of the two-prong corkscrew over the top of the cork. Push the shorter prong into the opposite side. Gently work it down between the cork and the glass bottle.

5. Push the handle back and forth and push the prongs all the way into the bottle. The handle should touch the top of the cork. Grab the handle firmly and remove the cork by twisting it up and out of the wine bottle.
