Make Cheese Danish

A cheese danish uses ricotta and cream cheese to create that cheesy taste. You can enjoy a cheese danish for breakfast or dessert. Drizzle icing over the pastries for a sweet taste. A cheese danish ideally should be served right after baking. To decrease the fat content in the cheese, use fat-free ricotta cheese and egg yolk substitutes, and use extra virgin olive oil cooking spray instead of vegetable oil or butter spray.

Instructions

1. Turn the oven on to 400 degrees.

2. Cream the sugar and cream cheese in a bowl with the mixer. Add the egg yolks, ricotta cheese, vanilla, salt and lemon zest. Combine until the ingredients are mixed.

3. Roll out a sheet of the puff pastry. Cut it into four pieces. Use spoon to put a scoop of the cheese mixture onto each square.

4. Mix one egg with one tablespoon of water in a bowl. Use a pastry brush to brush the egg mix over the edges of the pastry dough. Fold the pastry to make a triangle. Coat in the egg mixture.

5. Spray a pan with cooking spray. Set the pastries on the pan and bake for 20 minutes. Use the other puff pastry dough sheet to make more pastries.

6. Take the pastries out of the oven when they are golden brown.
