Make Roomali Roti Stepbystep

Roomali roti is an Indian bread dish. It is often called handkerchief bread because you serve it folded in half like a handkerchief. Roomali roti's main ingredient is wheat flour and it requires a little bit of mixing. Roomali roti goes well with Indian curry and other types of chicken. This recipe can be made in a few minutes, and is a nice side dish to an Indian meal.

Instructions

1. Mix together in the medium bowl, 1 1/2 cups of wheat flour, all of the Maida, the salt and the baking powder using a wooden spoon. Maida is a super refined Indian flour.

2. Pour all the oil into the flour mixture and slowly start to pour in the water, stopping frequently to stir the mixture. Continue doing this until you have used all the water and the dough feels smooth and bounces like elastic.

3. Set the mixture aside and put a moist muslin cloth or wash cloth over the dough. Let it sit for half an hour white heating up the inverted griddle by turning it on its highest setting. If an inverted griddle is not available, a regular griddle will work.

4. Make small balls out of the dough mixture, clear a large counter space and sprinkle fresh flour over the space. Using a rolling pin, roll out each ball to make it as thin as possible.

5. Place the thin dough that you just rolled out on the warmed up griddle. Keep each piece on the griddle until it is done, which is about 10 minutes per piece. You can put a few on there at one time.

6. Fold the bread in half to make a handkerchief-like form.
