Homemade cookies make thoughtful and tasty gifts---but they don't look very gifty when wrapped in just tin foil or plastic wrap. Follow these tips to make your next batch of cookies look like gifts rather than leftovers.

1. Before adding any type of packaging, wrap your cookies tightly in a sheet of clear plastic wrap so they won't get stale.
2. Consider what type of package you'd like to put your cookies in. Chinese take-out containers come in assorted sizes and colors and make fun and handy gift boxes for small- to medium-sized cookies.
Tins, baskets and glass cookie jars from stores like Target or The Container Store not only hold your cookies, they become an added gift that your friends or family members can reuse--or regift.
3. Enhance your packaging by adding color and detail in the form of ribbons, bows and tissue paper. If you're using a Chinese take-out container, tie a small piece of ribbon around the handle and use a pair of scissors to curl the ends. Line larger containers, like tins and baskets, with a few sheets of colored tissue paper; or stick a bright bow on the top of a clear cookie jar.
4. Don't forget to let your recipient know who their gift is from. Purchase a small gift tag or make your own by folding the cover of an old greeting card in two and writing a note to your friend or family member inside. Attach it to your packaging with a piece of tape, or by punching a hole in the card and threading it through a ribbon.
5. Give, give, give! Now your cookies are ready to be given to their lucky recipient---just be sure to keep a few for yourself.
