Use A Chafing Dish

Though rarely used, a chafing dish can bring a touch of elegance to home entertainment. It's the perfect way to keep the shrimp cocktail warm, or serve an entree for a buffet-style dinner. Read on to learn how easy it is to use a chafing dish.

Instructions

1. Prepare your buffet. A chafing dish is frequently used on such an occasion to keep food warm. It can also be used for slow even cooking or to flambe, as it was in the Edwardian times.

2. Fill the fuel vessel first before you begin to cook, and light with care. It's embarrassing to admit to your guests that you lost a duel with a chafing dish.

3. Add near-boiling water to the chafing pan. This will save time, as you won't need the flame to heat it from room temperature.

4. Adjust the wick, if there is one, so that the water stays just below boiling.

5. Set the pan over the water bath once the water has reached the appropriate temperature. Begin your favorite recipe or add the foods to be kept warm.
