There are many types of white wine grapes that are grown all across the world. These grapes all have unique profiles, and are made into a variety of wines. While not every type of white wine grape has enjoyed immense popularity, there are several grapes that are known across the world.

Chardonnay

The Chardonnay grape is one of the most popular white wine grapes. This grape is grown around the world and thrives in many climates. When made into wine, Chardonnay grapes tend to be on the dry side and can take on flavors of butter, vanilla and many fruit flavors. Chardonnay is typically aged in oak barrels before bottled for the consumer.

Sauvignon Blanc

Sauvignon Blanc grapes are used to create dry, flavorful wines. These wines tend to take on the flavor characteristics of cut grass, minerals and tropical fruits. Sauvignon Blanc has enjoyed immense popularity and is used in many wines from the Bordeaux region of France.

Riesling

Riesling is an ideal wine grape for new wine drinkers. This grape is used to make sweeter wines and is a trademark of quality German wine. These grapes have intense fruity aromas and flavors. Riesling grapes are made into many varying levels of sweet wines that are often paired with sweeter foods.

Chenin Blanc

Chenin Blanc may not be as popular as many other types of white wine grapes, but it still creates a balanced, interesting wine. The characteristics of Chenin Blanc wine include honey and an herbal tea taste. Many Chenin Blanc wines have a high acidity and varying levels of sweetness.

Prosecco Grapes

Prosecco grapes have been steadily growing in popularity for many years. These grapes are grown mainly in Italy and are used mostly for sparkling wines.
