Make Cookie Hamburgers With Vanilla Wafers

Playing with your food is frowned upon in a formal dinner setting, but dining can take on a whole new meaning when children are involved. Because kids have a hard time weathering the lengthy dinners that accompany most family gatherings, including some fun with the entrees you serve can help keep the peace at the table. Use vanilla wafers to make a platter of cookie hamburgers the next time your guests include children, and the dinner hour will be much more enjoyable for all.

Instructions

1. Start by making the ketchup for your vanilla wafer cookie hamburgers. Unroll the fruit leather from its packaging and stretch it flat. Use a pair of kitchen scissors to cut a wavy circular shape that is slightly larger than the vanilla wafers. The more irregular the shape the better, as this will resemble real ketchup when applied to the cookie hamburger.

2. Make lettuce for the burgers by using the kitchen scissors to cut lettuce leaves from green fruit leather. The lettuce leaves should be cut smaller than the vanilla wafers so that you can use two pieces per cookie hamburger.

3. Fill a cookie sheet with a layer of vanilla wafers. Arrange them so that the flat side of the cookie faces up.

4. Spread a thick layer of chocolate frosting in the center of each vanilla wafer. Smooth it onto the cookies so that the frosting is in a circle shape on the cookie.

5. Layer ketchup and lettuce leaves onto the chocolate frosting. Fruit leather is usually tacky to the touch, so the lettuce and ketchup should stay where you place it. If you find that the fruit leather is slipping off of your cookie hamburgers, you may want to use a dot of chocolate frosting to help secure it.

6. Finish the cookie hamburger by applying another vanilla wafer to the top of the fruit leather. Place the cookies so the flat side faces the fruit leather and use a small dot of chocolate frosting to secure them.
