Make Cava Sangria

Red wine, brandy and fruit provide the base of the original sangria.

Cava is the Catalan sparkling wine for excellence. Made using the Champagne method it is an affordable alternative to French champagne. Initially used only for special occasions, nowadays cava also is used as the main ingredient of sangria, replacing the heavy red wine. The result is a refreshing beverage that can be enjoyed at dinner parties, summer barbecues and holiday celebrations. Make your very own and dazzle your guests.

Instructions

1. Dice the strawberries and mango. Ideally, piece sizes should be small enough to fit on a flute glass but big enough so they don't look insignificant. Set the mango apart.

2. Place the strawberries in the serving jug and stir in the sugar. Let the mixture sit in the jug for an hour or so. By that time, the strawberry juices will have come out and will give sweetness and the traditional reddish color to the sangria.

3. Stir in the diced mango.

4. Add the orange liqueur and the peach schnapps. Stir and let the mix sit in the refrigerator for an extra hour so the fruit absorbs the alcohol.

5. Mix in the bottle of cava and the lemonade. Stir and serve immediately.
