Make A Recipe Vegan

Becoming vegan does not mean you have to give up your favorite comfort foods or throw away your old cookbooks and recipes. It's not that difficult to make a recipe vegan. All it takes is some basic knowledge about vegan ingredients and how they work in baking and cooking.

Instructions

1. Identify dairy ingredients when baking a cake. Substitute rice milk or soy milk for regular cow milk in recipes.

2. Substitute a powdered egg replacement product or tofu for eggs.

3. Use tofu, seitan or textured vegetable protein in recipes that require beef or chicken.

4. Add a third bean variety in chili recipes. Add garbanzo beans to a chili recipe that includes kidney and pinto beans.

5. Try vegetable stock instead of chicken stock when making soups.

6. Select soy milk, rice milk or water to prepare oatmeal.

7. Substitute corn oil or olive oil for butter to make a recipe vegan.

8. Utilize soy milk in chowder or milk-based recipes. The difference is minimal, and you'll feel much healthier after eating.

9. Use agar flakes to make gelatin dessert. Most people don't realize that gelatin is derived from animals.

10. Omit meat from your favorite soup or chili recipe if meat is the only non vegan ingredient.

11. Look for vegan bread recipes rather than trying to make recipes vegan. Easy vegan bread recipes are plentiful.

12. Realize that substitutions aren't always straightforward. Sometimes it takes a while to determine what substitute ingredients will work in your favorite recipes.
