Freeze Sliced Cheese

Preserve your favorite cheeses to enjoy them later.

Handling cheese properly ensures that it remains high in quality. When you have too much cheese or you cannot consume it all, preserve the cheese slices in the freezer. Freeze hard and semi-hard cheeses to prolong the shelf life. Freezing cheese does not affect the flavor, but the texture may become crumbly once thawed. Cheeses that freeze well include, but are not limited to, brick, cheddar, mozzarella, Parmesan, Swiss and Edam.

Instructions

1. Wrap cheese slices in moisture-proof wrapping, such aluminum foil, freezer paper or plastic wrap. Place the wrapped cheese inside a freezer bag or container. If the sliced cheese already contains a moisture-proof wrapping, leave it on the cheese.

2. Place the cheese slices in the freezer at 0 degrees Fahrenheit. Freeze the cheese for up to six months.

3. Thaw the cheese in the refrigerator so it does not lose moisture. Use the cheese after it thaws for best results.
