Homemade Christmas Fudge

Candy canes make festive holiday fudge.

Homemade gifts are always the best kind to give. Fudge is simple to make, doesn't take long and you can make numerous batches to give as gifts. Once the fudge is cool, cut it into squares and wrap it in pretty Christmas cellophane tied with a ribbon. Attach the recipe to the ribbon-once your loved ones have tried your fudge, they will definitely want more of this Christmas treat. Fudge can be made with or without nuts to accommodate friends with allergies.

Instructions

1. Heat the vanilla chips and the condensed milk over medium heat. When nearly melted, remove from heat and stir.

2. Put the candy canes in a plastic freezer bag and seal the bag. Crush the candy by hitting it with a meat tenderizing mallet or roll the candy canes with a rolling pin until they are small chunks.

3. To the hot mixture, add the peppermint extract, a few drops of red or green food coloring, and the crushed candy canes.

4. Line the baking pan with foil and pour the fudge mixture into the lined pan.

5. Chill the fudge in the refrigerator for several hours.
