Pesto sauce is a tasty pasta accompaniment.
A rich infusion of basil, olive oil, pine nuts and garlic, pesto sauce complements freshly made pasta. Mix thick, handmade pesto sauce into a bowl of hot noodles for a fresh, robust flavor. Pesto is easy to make and is a flavorful alternative to traditional tomato sauce. Pesto sauce can also be used to jazz up homemade pizzas. Save time by making a large batch of pesto sauce and storing some in a refrigerator or freezer for later use.
Instructions
1. Pour cooled pesto sauce into a plastic or glass storage container. Allow 1/2 inch at the top of the container for expansion.
2. Cover the container securely with an air-tight lid.
3. Write the storage date on a piece of freezer tape and place it on the container for convenience and to ensure freshness.
4. Pour the pesto sauce into an ice cube tray as an alternative freezing method. Freeze the pesto and place the cubes in a zipper-sealed plastic freezer bag to create individual-sized portions.
5. Store the pesto sauce in a refrigerator for up to a week and in a freezer for up to six months.
