Horse Hair Jewelry Instructions

Horsehair provides you with a strong and decorative jewelry accent.


Horsehair provides you with a durable material with which to construct a variety of crafts. It presents itself with a plethora of uses from threading to weaving and everything in between. Making jewelry from horsehair enables you to incorporate a rustic and eco-conscious material in with a variety of colored beads and other accents. This dresses up a bohemian look and provides you with a beauty accent for your casual attire.








Instructions


Bracelet


1. Separate a 1-inch thick strand of horsehair from your assortment. Make sure it is combed straight and free of knots. Cut it down to about 8 inches in length.


2. Tie one end of the strand into a tight knot around the ring part of a jewelry finding. Squeeze a small amount of hot glue on the knot to keep it secured and let it dry for 10 minutes.


3. Separate the strand into three smaller strands, and braid it tightly all the way down to the opened end.


4. Slide a crimper bead down to the end of the strand, about an inch from the end finding. Crimp it into place with the crimper tool.


5. Slide a glass bead of your choice down the end to rest atop the crimped bead. Follow it by crimping another bead right above the glass bead.


6. Repeat steps 4 and 5 every 1 inch until you reach an inch from the opened end of the braid.


7. Tie the opened end into a tight knot around the other end of a jewelry finding that connects to the ring at the other end of the bracelet. Secure it into place further with a small dot of hot glue. Let it dry for an hour.


Brooch Charm


8. Separate a strand of hair from your assortment measuring about 2 inches thick and 12 inches long.


9. Separate the 2-inch strand into three smaller strands of equal size.


10. Tie a tight knot at the end of each smaller strand. Secure each knot with a dot of hot glue.








11. Separate one of the glued knotted strands into three smaller strands, and braid it tightly to the end. Secure it with a glued knot at the end. Repeat this step with the other two knotted strands.


12. Match the ends of each braided strand of horsehair together and glue them to create perfect braided horsehair circles. Match the circles together in a triangular formation with one on top and one at each lower side. Glue the edges together where the circles meet. Place a dot of glue on the back of your chosen flower blossom, such as a carnation, and place it firmly on the center of the joined hair circles. Let the charm dry for an hour before gluing it to the back of a brooch jewelry finding.
