4. Buy a few good smoking and grilling books. Many authors have wildly differing opinions on smoke foods and reading several books can provide a healthy balance of ideas.


5. Practice as often as possible to perfect your technique. Ask family and friends if they would like particular cuts of meat smoked alongside your own. This process will help hone smoking skills and provide excellent feedback.


6. Remember the proper temperatures for cooked meat. All pork should read above 160 degrees Fahrenheit, poultry above 180 degrees Fahrenheit and red meat above 145 degrees Fahrenheit.
