Make Home Made Healthy French Fries

Make crispy and healthy french fries at home.

French fried potatoes are a staple of fast food restaurants. Since they are deep fried in oil, they have lost favor among those who are interested in eating healthier. There is an alternative to deep frying that brings all the crispy flavor to the table. Make healthy French fries in your oven and avoid all the fat. With a little advance planning and some extra time, your family will request these healthy homemade French fries often and you will feel good about preparing them.

Instructions

1. Preheat the oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit.

2. Peel and wash the potatoes.

3. Slice the potatoes with a mandoline into a large bowl. The mandoline will cut the fries thin and even-sized.

4. Cover the potatoes with water and add 1/2 tsp. salt. Let them sit for 30 minutes. This will release starch in the potatoes and help them crisp up when baked.

5. Drain the potatoes in a colander. Place them in a single layer on paper towels, being careful not to break the evenly cut potatoes. Pat the tops of the potato slices with additional paper towels to dry.

6. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Place the potatoes on the paper, brush them with a light layer of olive oil and sprinkle with salt and pepper to taste.

7. Bake for 45 minutes, turning periodically to ensure even browning.
