Make A Louisiana Fruit Salad With Frozen Strawberries

Strawberries can be fresh or defrosted.

A perfect accompaniment to a brunch, summer dinner or as a dessert, Louisiana fruit salad is both refreshing and nutritious. Because it's usually made with mostly frozen or canned fruit, this salad can be made on short notice for company or family. The frozen strawberries should be thawed before the salad is served. The addition of the pie filling makes the salad taste sweeter and gives the juice a slightly thicker consistency. Served alone, or with a dollop of whipped cream, Louisiana fruit salad goes well on top of ice cream or cake.

Instructions

1. Take the frozen strawberries out of the freezer one day in advance and place them in the refrigerator. Put the bag in a bowl in case there is a small hole in the bag.

2. Mix a 15 1/2 oz. can of pineapple chunks with two 11 oz. cans mandarin oranges in a large bowl.

3. Drain the juice from a 10 oz. package of frozen strawberries, and mix with the oranges and pineapple in the bowl. Mix a 12 oz. can of peach or apple pie filling with the other fruit.

4. Place the bowl in the refrigerator until you are ready to serve it. Slice bananas on top right before serving.
