Precook Ribs In The Oven Before Grilling

Barbecue ribs can be cooked first in an oven before grilling.

Ribs are a staple beef or pork dish for dinners and barbecues. To cook this meat, you need precision; rib meat is thin and wraps around bones. Many cooks grill the meat right on the grill, but this requires consistent monitoring so the meat is not overcooked. You might want to pre-cook ribs so that you must only briefly grill them. Cooking the ribs in the oven first will not remove the flavor of your ribs and can be a practical cooking procedure for novice grillers.

Instructions

1. Tap the ribs with a dry paper towel. You want the meat somewhat dry before you cook the ribs in the oven. That way, liquid does not pool around the ribs and overcook, causing the liquid to squirt in the oven.

2. Season your ribs. Chose any seasoning you want and rub it all over the beef or pork ribs. Gently pat the seasoning into the meat.

3. Wrap the ribs in freezer-safe plastic or aluminum foil and place them in the freezer. Leave them in the freezer overnight.

4. Heat your oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit. Wait for the oven to completely preheat.

5. Place the frozen ribs on the broiler pan and place the pan into the preheated oven. Cook for 30 minutes.

6. Prepare your grill as the ribs are cooking in the oven. The method will vary depending on whether it is a propane, wood or charcoal grill. Warm the grill to a medium heat as the ribs are cooking.

7. Remove the ribs from the oven after about one-half hour, or when the meat has turned slightly brown. Don't fully cook the meat in the oven. Doing so will result in them burning or over-cooking when placed on the grill.

8. Dash a few sprinkles of salt over your ribs. The salt will absorb any excess liquid that might be dripping from the ribs.

9. Place the ribs on the grill using tongs. The grill should remain at a medium temperature setting.

10. Monitor the ribs and flip them often.

11. Remove the ribs when you notice prominent grill marks on the meat.

12. Cut into the ribs with a knife to make sure the meat is cooked to your liking.

13. Cover the ribs in the coating you wish, such as barbecue sauce or honey mustard.
