Make Lowfat Nachos

Lighten up your nachos to reduce the fat content.

Nachos are an all-time favorite snack often found at fun get-togethers such as Super Bowl parties, baseball games, movies, a friends' night in or just as a tasty and easy snack at home. The problem is most nacho platters are laden with unnecessary fat because of the heavy cheese, thick sour cream, avocado and fattening chips that accompany them. Low-fat nachos are easy to make and healthier, so try this recipe for lower-fat vegetarian nachos to avoid unnecessary calories while keeping the nacho taste you love.

Instructions

1. Cover a large baking sheet with aluminum foil. Preheat the oven to 400 degrees. Spread tortilla chips across the baking sheet, covering the whole area.

2. Dice the onion, peppers and tomato. Spread them evenly over the tortilla chips. Add olives and cover the whole layer of chips in low-fat cheese.

3. Bake the nachos in the oven for about 5 minutes. Check the nachos halfway through to make sure the cheese is melted, but not dried up. If the cheese looks dry or the chips are getting dark brown, remove the baking sheet from the oven.

4. Remove the nachos from the oven and let them stand for a few minutes. Divide the nachos into big chunks and put them on a large plate or platter. The foil makes it easy to put the chips on a platter because you can put the foil and chips on a tray without having to separate them.

5. Add the fat-free sour cream in small dollops on top of the nachos. Serve with salsa on the side for dipping.
