Cork Bottles With Wax

Adding a wax seal to a corked bottle will give it a refined look. Bottle sealing wax comes in a variety of colors, which you can purchase from craft and hobby stores as well as online. Try matching the sealing wax to the label to give it an attractive look. Sealing wax, once melted, goes a long way. A 1-pound bag of bottle-sealing wax could seal approximately 50 bottles, depending on the size of the bottle.

Instructions

1. Empty a soup can and wash it with soap and warm water. Dry the tin can thoroughly. If a soup can is not available, a glass measuring cup will work.

2. Fill a medium saucepan 3/4 full with water. Place on the stove top and bring to a rolling boil.

3. Add 1/2 cup of sealing wax to the clean soup can. Place the soup can in the middle of the saucepan.

4. Stir the sealing wax with a spoon until it has melted. The sealing wax should be smooth. Put on a pair of gloves and remove the soup can, placing it on a flat, hard surface.

5. Hold the corked bottle upside down and lower it into the melted sealing wax. Approximately 1-inch of the bottle top should be submerged into the melted sealing wax.

6. Twist the bottle in your hand, and then slowly raise it from the wax. Twist the bottle again, allowing any excess wax to fall back into the soup can.

7. Turn the bottle upright after the wax has begun to harden. Set it aside and allow it to dry thoroughly. Repeat on any remaining corked bottles.
