Send Fruit Cheese And Wine Baskets

Send wine and cheese as part of your gift basket selection.

Gifts that are personal and thoughtful are always a hit for any occasion. Before buying the items to fill your gift basket, make sure you know if wine is appropriate for the recipient, and what fruit and cheese they enjoy. Even if the recipient is an acquaintance or distant family member, a gift basket of cheese, fruit and wine is a welcome gift.

Instructions

1. Purchase a basket of appropriate size to fit the items you would like to include in the basket. For fruit and tall wine bottles, deeper baskets work best. If you want the recipient to be able to reuse to basket, opt for a picnic basket with a large handle and hinged top.

2. Fill the basket with shredded paper. Coordinate the color of the shredded paper to the holiday or occasion. For instance, red or green for a Christmas basket, or pink or light yellow for Easter.

3. Arrange the items in the basket. They should be tightly packed in the shredded paper, but you can always add more once all the items are arranged. For a professional look, place taller items at the back of the basket. Place the cheese and fruit in the front. You may choose to pack the fruit in small cardboard gift boxes lined in foam if you are worried about them during transport. Alternatively, you can buy prepackaged fruit gifts and include these in your basket.

4. Stuff the basket so the items fit snugly, this will reduce wiggling and damage during transport. Place the basket flat on the bottom of the cellophane bag. Gather the bag around the top of the items. Secure the top of the bag with floral wire or a rubber band.

5. Tie the ribbon at the top of the bag for a personalized, professional look. Attach a note for the recipient. Staple or tape the note to your ribbon and you are ready to send.

6. Prepare the box for sending. Place the basket completely flat on the bottom of the box. Fill the box with packing popcorn or crinkled newspaper. There should be no room at all for the basket to wiggle or slide around. Once the basket is secured, take it to your local post office where the staff will ask you to fill out a contents slip. If the basket will be shipping internationally and depending on the value of the goods, you may have to pay extra postage to account for customs charges, or the recipient will have to pay upon receiving the box in the mail.
