Make Ground Beef Jerky In The Oven

Make Ground Beef Jerky in the Oven

Beef jerky is a favorite snack among many people. You can make your own jerky at home by using lean ground beef. Since jerky recipes call for a variety of seasonings, you can experiment and change them to suit your tastes. Ground beef jerky requires a long time to dehydrate, but the wait is rewarding. Although you can cut the jerky into strips, you may want to consider investing in a jerky gun to make perfectly even strips.

Instructions

1. Add all the ingredients into a mixing bowl. Using your hands, mix the ingredients until the seasoning distributes in the meat.

2. Cover the mixing bowl. Place it in the refrigerator for up to 24 hours to create a stronger taste, otherwise known as curing the meat.

3. Preheat the oven to 150 degrees F.

4. Lay out a sheet of wax paper. Grab a small amount of ground beef, about golf ball size, and place it in the center of the wax paper.

5. Add another sheet of wax paper over the ground beef. Place a sheet of thin cardboard over the top wax paper sheet.

6. Use the rolling pin to flatten the ground beef to 3/16 of an inch.

7. Remove the wax paper. Cut the ground beef into strips. Lay the strips on dehydrator racks.

8. Continue to roll out the ground beef until you have your desired amount.

9. Place the jerky strips on the dehydrator racks into the oven. Leave the oven door cracked.

10. Dehydrate the beef jerky strips for six to eight hours. Once the beef jerky is dry and cool, place the strips in an airtight container and store them in the refrigerator. Test the jerky to ensure that it is dry by bending a piece the jerky. If the jerky does not break, then it is ready.
