Infuse Vodka With Coffee

Coffee isn't the first thing most people think of when thinking up alcoholic drinks, but coffee-infused vodka can be a great pick me up as an aperitif or as dessert after a rich meal. Try infusing your vodka with coffee for a very different drinking experience.

Instructions

1. Pick up your favorite dark-roasted coffee beans for this recipe. These beans often have a stronger flavor, which lends to a better infusion. The beans also will color the vodka more deeply than other beans do.

2. Purchase a mid-grade vodka, such as Stoli or Absolut. Coffee beans can overpower a vodka's taste, but not its smoothness. Choosing a slightly pricier vodka will make for a better final product.

3. Prepare the coffee beans. Try gently cracking the beans using pressure. One way to do this is to place the beans into a large Pyrex baking dish and apply pressure to them using a slightly smaller dish. Avoid crushing the beans.

4. Place a small handful of coffee beans into a resealable glass container and add sugar. Pour 750 ml of vodka into the container and seal it. Be sure to place it in a warm, dry place and open it a few times throughout the day to mix it. Let infuse for about 12 hours.

5. Pour the vodka infusion through the coffee filter and serve. Visit the Drinks Mixer website for a list of recipes you can use with your new coffee-infused vodka (see Resources below).

6. Try infusing your vodka with a French press if you're tight on time. Visit the Bex Huff website for detailed instructions (see Resources below).
