Famous Swiss Food

Famous Swiss Food

Swiss cooking is known for its fine quality. The Swiss farmlands provide perfect land for grazing animals, which is perhaps the secret behind the delicious, creamy taste of Swiss chocolates or cheeses. The Swiss are also known for their healthy diets, although there is certainly no shortage of fatty cream in Swiss cuisine.

Swiss Cheese

Swiss cheese is known as Emmentaler cheese in Switzerland, and is named after the Emme valley. Swiss cheese makes an excellent addition to soups or sandwiches.

Fondue

Although there are many variations, fondue is basically cheese melted with white wine and kirsch. Bread is then dipped in the cheese dip and eaten with a fork.

Swiss Chocolate

Switzerland is famous for its chocolate, particularly the milk chocolate varieties. Some of the most popular Swiss brand names include Lindt, Nestle and Camille Bloch.

Gruyere Cheese

Gruyere cheese is a bit milder and sweeter than swiss cheese. It is named after the village of Gruyeres

Muesli

Muesli is a popular cereal, usually containing oats, nuts and both fresh and dried fruits. It makes a delicious and very healthy breakfast when eaten with milk or yogurt. Muesli was first created by a Swiss doctor named Dr. Bircher-Benner in the late 19th century.

Rosti

Rosti is a popular Swiss dinner dish, with quite a German influence. It usually contains onion, cheese, caraway seeds and potatoes, which are formed into the shape of a cake.
