Freeze Parsley

You can enjoy homegrown parsley in the middle of winter.

Parsley is the perfect addition to many recipes, and it makes a beautiful garnish. While parsley can be stored in the refrigerator in a glass of water, you can follow a few steps to ensure it lasts even longer. By freezing parsley, you ensure that it stays fresh and that you have some on hand whenever you need it. You can enjoy homegrown parsley in the middle of winter. Best of all, you don't need any special equipment to maintain its freshness.

Instructions

1. Run the parsley under a gentle stream of water to remove any dirt and pesticides. If you have several bunches of parsley, place them in a colander and toss to rinse as the water runs over the parsley.

2. Lay bunches of parsley out on paper towels and roll the towels into a cylinder. Squeeze the paper towels to remove any excess water from the parsley. Unroll the paper towels and use dry ones to finish drying the parsley.

3. Chop the parsley with a pair of kitchen shears.

4. Place 1 to 2 tbsp. of parsley in a resealable snack-size plastic bag. Continue until all the parsley is in plastic bags.

5. Put the bags of parsley in your refrigerator's freezer.

6. Remove as needed and add to your recipe. If the parsley is going into a hot dish, you don't have to thaw it.
