Keep Cucumber Salad From Getting Watery

Keep cucumber salads from getting watery by preparing the cucumbers properly.

Cucumbers actually contain a lot of water. When you slice the cucumbers, the water will slowly drain from the produce. The water that expels from the cucumbers can ruin the texture of cucumber salad and make it watery. Soaking the cucumbers in a salt-water solution or coating them with kosher salt will draw out the excess water. Once you remove the excess water, the cucumbers will have a crispier and firmer texture.

Instructions

Kosher Salt

1. Wash the ripe cucumbers under cool, running water.

2. Cut the cucumbers into thin slices.

3. Place a layer of cucumbers into a large bowl.

4. Sprinkle salt over the layer of cucumbers. Make another layer of cucumbers and sprinkle salt over them. Repeat the process until you run out of cucumbers.

5. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap. Refrigerate the cucumbers overnight in the refrigerator.

6. Drain the expelled water from the cucumbers.

7. Prepare the cucumber salad according to your recipe.

Salt Water

8. Combine 10 cups of water with 1/4 cup of salt in a large bowl.

9. Soak the cucumbers in the salt-water solution for eight hours in the refrigerator.
