Shred Brussel Sprouts

Shred tiny brussels sprouts to expand your cooking methods for this vegetable.

Shredding Brussels sprouts shortens the cooking time and makes them useable in chilled, uncooked recipes like cole slaw. Unlike their larger cruciferous cousin the cabbage, Brussels sprouts do not lend themselves to easy shredding. The tiny size of brussels sprouts prevents the cook from safely grating them on a box grater. For dishes requiring shredded sprouts, opt for a food processor for a more powerful option than any manual kitchen device.

Instructions

1. Wash the Brussels sprouts and pat dry.

2. Cut the hard core off the base of larger sprouts.

3. Halve the Brussels sprouts if needed to fit down the chute of your food processor.

4. Attach the shredding disc to your food processor.

5. Feed the Brussels sprouts down the chute of your food processor to shred them.

Alternatively, thinly slice the halved Brussels sprouts with a knife if you do not have a food processor.
