Cook Meat Sauce

Cook Meat Sauce

A meat sauce is delicious served over a starchy food, such as rice, potatoes or bread. Meat sauce might be made from ground beef, turkey, pork or chunks of meat or sausage. Classic meat sauce is made from a tomato base, simmered for hours so the flavors of the spices and any added vegetables will blend together, intensifying in flavor.

Instructions

1. Brown and cook the meat in a little hot oil, using a large skillet. Before combining the meat with the other ingredients, the meat should be thoroughly cooked. If it is ground meat, break it into small pieces as it fries, and brown.

2. Add the cooked meat to the remaining ingredients of the sauce. This might be finely diced vegetables, such as onions, celery or bell peppers, along with canned tomatoes or tomato paste and spices.

3. Use a pressure cooker to speed up the cooking time. Pour the ingredients into a pressure cooker, and secure the lid, as per the instructions of the cooker. Heat the cooker according to the instructions of the pressure cooker's manufacturer. After the pressure regulator begins to rock, reduce heat slightly and allow to cook for about 20 minutes.

4. Pour into a slow cooker if you don't have a pressure cooker. Place the lid on the slow cooker. Simmer on high for about 4 hours, or about 8 hours on low.

5. Simmer on the stove if you don't have a slow cooker t or pressure cooker. Cover the pan, and cook for 3 or 4 hours to infuse the flavors. Stir occasionally.
